Investment casting is a metal casting technique that dates back more than 5,000 years. This process produces high-strength metal parts with superior dimensional accuracy and surface finishes.

In its simplest form, investment casting begins with a wax pattern that is dipped into a refractory material slurry. The refractory material coats the wax pattern and creates a mould cavity that can then be filled with molten metal to produce the finished part.

Using this method, parts with exceptional tolerances and finishes can be produced from practically any metal. This process also requires minimal materials and energy use.

Aerospace manufactures rely on investment casting to produce components that are durable, precise, and able to meet demanding requirements. These components have to be able to withstand extreme weather conditions, fluctuating pressures, and wear and tear during operation.

Fluid power equipment such as pumps, cylinders, and valves are also manufactured with the assistance of investment casting technology. The equipment is primarily made from stainless steel or specialty alloys because of the need for precision and durability.

Automotive manufacturing is another major industry that relies on investment casting to produce precision parts and components for its equipment. The car industry uses a wide range of steels and aluminum alloys, but many are specialized for their unique performance characteristics.

The food and dairy industry also depends on investment casting to produce its products. Components for meat slicers, poultry processing equipment, ice machine parts, and grills are all made of stainless steel or specialty alloys that need to be durable and precision-fit.
