How to Make Repairs on Bucket Teeth

Not only are the excavator buckets crucial components of an excavator machine, but they are also the most heavily used compared to the rest of the device. It is therefore only a matter of time before the bucket teeth on the machine need to be replaced or repaired in order to ensure that the excavator is running properly. Making sure that the machine works to its full capacity is rewarding as it will make the operator more money.

Here are some easy to follow steps to help you makes essential repairs to your bucket teeth:

1. First of all you need to find out which bucket teeth are the damaged ones. The best way to do this is just through a visual inspection of the teeth. You are looking to see if the teeth have dulled or been worn-out from over exposure. Equally, check to see if any of the metal has been sheared away due to the force exerted on them.

2. Any worn out teeth that you have found can simply be removed by the bolt which are holding them into place. In order to unbolt the broken teeth you should use an impact wrench (which is the appropriate-size) in order to break the bolt free. However, if the teeth have been sheared or mangled they may need to be cut using a cutting torch. Make sure that you check any spot welds that are holding the tooth into place as you may find that some teeth are welded therefore using a cutting torch is imperative to remove them.

3. It may only be necessary to sharpen the teeth so that they can be used efficiently again, otherwise they need to be replaced.

4. If you need to replace any of the broken teeth, do so with new weld-on teeth or with bolt on teeth. It may even be applicable to use both. To bolt on use an appropriate-sized wrench to tighten the bolts whilst you hold the teeth in place (on the bucket's lip). To spot weld, read the manufacturer's instructions.
